Abstract

This paper discusses the development of simultaneous optimization model to determine component tolerance of assembly product and plant for manufacturing processes by considering quality tolerance limits, and delivery time constraint to minimize total cost in collaboration environment of make-to-order manufacturing systems. Total cost of the system consists of manufacturing costs and quality loss costs as the tolerance function, operational costs for multi-plant manufacturing collaboration which includes: setup costs, material handling costs, operating costs of assembly, manual operations costs, and transportation costs. Formulation of the model developed uses mixed integer non linear programming as a method of solution search. In the numerical examples presented, the optimization process results an optimal solution. Optimal solution is not sensitive if the changes in quality tolerance constraint and delivery time constraint is not large. While the addition of an alternative plant for producing a component can changes the alternative plant selected

Abstract

This paper investigates a development of single machine batch scheduling for multi items with dependent processing time. The batch scheduling problem is to determine simultaneously number of batch (N), which item and its size allocated for each batch, and processing sequences of resulting batches. We use total actual flow time as the objective of schedule performance. The multi item batch scheduling problem could be formulated into a biner-integer nonlinear programming model because the number of batch should be in integer value, the allocation of items to resulting batch need binary values, and also there are some non-linearity on objective function and constraint due to the dependent processing time. By applying relaxation on the decision variable of number of batch (N) as parameter, a heuristic procedure could be applied to find solution of the single machine batch scheduling problem for multi items.

Abstract

This article aims to compare the performance of combination of Genetic Algorithm-Simulated Annealing (GA-SA) with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to solve facility layout problem. GA-SA in this article consist of two algorithms, GA-SA I and GA-SA II, with a different mutation rule. PSO uses fuzzy particle swarm concept to represent solution from each particle. Two criteria to analyze all algorithms performance are moment of movement and computational time. Experiments show that GA-SA II has the best performance in minimization both criteria

Abstract

This paper attempt to assessing the impact of IT competency on organizational learning capability by using the measurement scale that have been developed by Tippins et al. and Gomes et al. These studies cover a sample of 192 manufacturing firms. IT competencies are classified into three dimensions: IT knowledge, IT operations, and IT objects, and organizational learning capability are classified into four dimensions: Managerial commitment, System perspec-tive, Openness and experimentation, and Knowledge transfer and integration. The result of factor analysis on IT competency and Organizational learning capability show that all items have high loading only on a single factor with ranging from .60 to .84. The findings revealed that IT competency positively and significantly influences the organizational learning capability of Indonesian manufacturing firms.

Abstract

In this paper we formulated mean-VaR portfolio optimization through CAPM Koyck transformation. We assumed that lagged of risk premium which have highly influence on stock returns is infinite, while model parameters decrease geometrically. We also assumed that rate of return in risk premium market index is not constant, in other word has a non-constant volatility rate, and also has a long memory effect. The later was analyzed using ARFIMA. Non constant volatility rate was modeled via GARCH model. The portfolio optimization was constructed using Langrangian multiplier and the Kuhn-Tucker theorem was employed to obtain the solution by the least square method. Finally, we provide a numerical example of the optimization model based on several stocks traded in Indonesian capital market.

Abstract

There are several problems in industrial process for example problems associated with product quality. In statistics, observation which is significantly different to the average is called outlier. The outlier can give significant influence to the result of modeling, which can affect the decision making. This research develops the outlier detection method using the Likelihood Displacement Statistic method, called Likelihood Displacement Statistic-Lagrange (LDL) method. The LDL method is applied to sugar and molasses production data of Djombang Baru Sugar Factory, Jombang, East Java. The result of this research shows that factors influenced the sugar and molasses production are sugar cane with the dirt less than 5%, sugar cane with the dirt between 5% to 7%, sugar cane with the dirt higher than 7%, and imbibition water

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present critical factors that constitute a successful implementation of the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) in Small Medium Enterprise (SME). Many large companies have applied AMT and the applications have shown significant results in this global market era. Conveniently, these phenomenons are also engaged to Small Medium Enterprises (SME) that of high demands on performing high quality product, fast delivery, reliable and more flexible. The implementation of AMT follow several processes namely pre installation, installation, improvement and mature. In order to guarantee the succesfull of running these processes, one should consider the Critical Success Factors (CSF). We conducted a survey to 125 SMEs that have implemented AMT, and found that the CSF for each process are moderately different. Good leadership is the main critical success factor for preparing and installation of the AMT. Once the AMT started or installed and arrived at growth stage, the financial availability factor turns into a critical success factor in the AMT implementation. In, mature stage, the support and commitment of top management becomes an important factor for gaining successful implementation. By means of factor analysis, we could point out that strategic factors are the main factors in pre-installation and installation stage. Finally, in the growth stage and mature stage, both tactical and strategic factors are the important factors in the successful of AMT implementation

Abstract

The economic production quantity (EPQ) model is widely employed in reality and is also being intensively developed in the research area. This research tries to develop more realistic EPQ models for deteriorating items by considering stochastic machine unavailability time (uniformly and exponentially distributed) and price-dependent demand. Lost sales will occur when machine unavailability time is longer than the non production time. Since the closed form solution cannot be derived, we use Genetic Algorithm (GA) to solve the models. A numerical example and sensitivity analysis is shown to illustrate the models. The sensitivity analyses show that a management can use price policy to minimize the profit loss due to machine unavailability time under a price- dependent demand situation
